Xanthelasma removal
Content
Description
Xanthelasmas are cholesterol deposits that appear under the skin around eyelids.
These are harmless deposits of fatty pads (cholesterol deposits), which, however, disturb the aesthetic appearance of the eyes.
There is no proven link to cholesterol levels in blood, but a laboratory blood test to determine cholesterol and lipid levels is advisable prior to the procedure.
Facts
- No anesthesia
- Outpatient procedure
- Procedure lasts 30 minutes
- Recovery in 7 days
Xanthelasma can be most easily removed with the help of a laser.
- The procedure is painless, lasts about 20 - 30 minutes and the patient goes home after the procedure.
- After the laser treatment, a small scab forms and falls off by itself after 7 days.
Other methods are TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peeling or liquid nitrogen therapy (cryotherapy).
If the patient also has excess skin (blepharochalasis), xanthelasma removal can be combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
