Genital warts (Condyloma)
Content
Description
Condylomas (genital warts) are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and are one of sexually transmitted diseases.
They are presented by the appearance of warts on the skin in the genital area of men and women.
This infectious disease also has many other names: anogenital warts, human papillomavirus infection, Latin: condyloma acuminatum, condylomata acuminata.
Facts
- Local anesthesia
- Outpatient procedure
- Procedure lasts 30 minutes
- Recovery in 14 days
The best prevention of genital warts is currently the use of an already available vaccination (vaccination against the HP virus), which is carried out in adolescents (around 12 years of age) and is mostly covered by the insurance company.
Vaccination and treatment are recommended for both sexes, as the disease is highly contagious and the HPV accounts for most cases of cervical cancer in women.
Treatment is performed using local creams and ointments (on prescription from a dermatologist) or surgical removal (removal with liquid nitrogen, electroablation or laser is also possible).
- After the surgery the wound is sutured and the sutures are removed on the 14th day, sometimes resorbable sutures are also used.
- After using a laser or cauterization, a scab is formed, which falls off by itself after 10 days.
