Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting
Content
Description
Breasts can also be enlarged by using your own fat, which will change the shape and size of the breasts.
If you want your breasts to have a natural shape, consistency and no scars after an incision - breast augmentation with fat grafting is a suitable choice for you. (Another terms for fat grafting are: breast lipofilling, breast autoaugmentation, lipografting or just enhancement with "your own fat").
The surgery is combined with liposuction for harvesing the fat cells from thighs and abdomen (or places with more fat tissue).
Facts
- General or local anesthesia
- One-day surgery
- Procedure lasts 1.5-2 hours
- Recovery within 7 days
This method is minimally invasive and the result looks more natural in compared to breast augmentation using breast implants.
- Fat removal is done from parts of the body where there is enough of fat tissue. This can be the abdomen, thighs or hips, or other parts of the body as the doctor considers appropriate.
- Breast enlargement is only possible by 1.5 bra sizes, larger enlargement can only be achieved with the help of repeated operations with an interval of at least 3 months.
- The procedure lasts one to three hours, takes place under local anesthesia (usually outpatient procedure), but mostly under general anesthesia (with a stay in hospital for a few days).
Breasts augmentation with your own fat requires enough fat tissue to be taken and elastic skin of the breasts.
If the procedure is planned to be performed under general anaesthesia, you will need to have a pre-operative examination approximately 1 to 2 weeks before the operation.
If you smoke, it would be advisable to stop smoking before the procedure, otherwise the risk and complications highly increases.
You may also be prescribed a special stretching bra a few weeks before the surgery (if the doctor recommends it). This bra helps to emphasize the result.
If the doctor assesses that local anesthesia will be sufficient, no preparation is necessary, but it is still necessary to follow all the instructions given by the doctor before the procedure itself.
Autoaugmentation takes place in several steps:
- Harvesting: The fat tissue is first removed from donor areas.
A special solution (tumescent solution) is injected into the donor areas from which loosens the fat. The fat cells are then suctioned with a cannula.
- Purification: The collected fat is then processed with several methods - centrifuging, decanting or filtration.
- Transfer: Fat cells are injected to the beasts with a fine needles until the desired volume is achieved.
- Healing: the fat cells must heal in with surrounduing breast tissue. Some amount of grafted fat will be absorbed and disappers. Due to fat absorption is the operation usually repeated in several sessions in order to achieve the most desired result.
Because of natural fat cells absorption (30% of transfered volume) a risk of not obtaining desired size or aesthetic result must be avoided by overcorrection and repeated surgeries.
The fat cells may also die (cell necrosis) and so the volume of the breast is reduced. The dead fat cells are broken down and absorbed by the body - necrotic cells can also interfere with mammograms.
Rarely, infection may occur.
After the procedure, recovery is painless and quick.
The fat transfer itself is done from small punctures, so avoid large scars are avoided. During the recovery, you need to wear postoperative elastic underwear for 4 - 6 weeks.
Although it is a sparing method of breast augmentation, recovery is from two procedures performed at the same time (fat removal and fat grafting).
There are no major restriction after the surgery, but avoiding sporting activities for at least one week is recommended.
