Preventive dental care
Content
Description
Prevention is the most effective way to prevent tooth decay (caries), gum disease and tooth loss.
A preventive dental examination is carried out by a stomatologist - a dentist who will check your teeth and in addition instructs you about proper oral hygiene, the type of toothbrushes and toothpastes, as well as warns you about improper brushing habits and recommends dental hygiene.
Facts
- No need for anesthesia
- Outpatient procedure
- Examination lasts 30 minutes
- Eat and drink immediately after exam
You should go for a preventive dentistry exam:
- 2x a year: children and adolescents up to the age of 18
- 1x per year: adults
- 2x during pregnancy: all pregnant women (at the beginning of pregnancy and just before giving birth)
During the examination the dentist will check:
- The entire dentition (all teeth)
- Mucous membranes
- Gums
- Soft tissues of the oral cavity
- Lymph nodes
The presence of plaque, tartar (dental calculus), dental caries as well as other diseases (periodontitis, salivary gland diseases, various inflammations - e.g. aphthae, gingivitis, presence of malignant processes) are checked.
The dentist also checks the position of the teeth - relation between maxillary arch and mandibular arch (resting position of teeth).
If necessary a dental X-ray or OPG X-ray (OPG, orthopantomography, orthopantomogram - panoramic scanning dental X-ray) is added.
