Arm lift (Brachioplasty)
Content
Description
Upper arm lift (Brachioplasty) is anaesthetic procedure removing loose skin on arms.
The most common patients are patients after massive weight loss with loose and sagging skin around the arms.
Facts
- General anesthesia
- One-day surgery
- Surgery lasts 2 hours
- Recovery in 4 - 6 weeks
Loose skin on the arm can appear after weight loss and is often referred as batwing lobe.
Incisions are made along armpits, arm and elbow. Better results are achieved with combination with liposuction (the skin in the area of planned resection is liposuctioned before surgery).
Brachioplasty is a surgery with resection of a larger amount of skin and mobilization and advancement of the skin.
After the surgery, drains (plastic tubes with negative pressure) are usually inserted to drain blood and fluids for a few days.
The arms are stretched and a compressive garment (elastic underware) is worn for 6 weeks.
